Rich Rhymes on Offer.

Rich Rhymes on Offer
by james bezerra

It would be surprisingly easy to write
a poem about genocide,
since “genocide” rhymes with “cyanide”.
and also “cultures collide”
and also with “tried to hide”.

Also, “flee” rhymes with “refugee”
and “mass exterminations”
rhymes with “United Nations”
and also because “infamy”
rhymes with “crimes against humanity”.

One has to wonder why poets decide
to skirt the topic of genocide
when the appropriate words provide
such poetic potential.
I think that’s just unconscionable!
I wouldn’t avoid any such subject matter
when such rich rhymes are on offer!
