Exercise and Commentary 4.
SEE! That was a whole story!
We had a beginning, a middle, an end, some characters, some conflict, some tone, some atmosphere, some depth! Maybe even a moral, or something!
Not too shabby. But it was kind of disgusting and a bit melodramatic, right? A bit over the top? Again with the horror-story grotesque being used as a crutch.
Maybe we should try something else. A different direction maybe. Here’s what we started with:
Sam was out of food.
He went to the store and bought some.
At home, he ate it.
So what else can we do with that?
Oh! Wait! I have an idea. Let’s do this ….
