Feeling Conflicted about the Patriarchy.

Feeling Conflicted About the Patriarchy
by james bezerra

All of my
high-minded
intellectualism
goes out the window
when mini-skirts.

Because we
convinced you -
with our impeccable,
unstoppable,
mass-marketing Capitalism machine -

that your tan bare legs,
smooth and long,
are the same
as freedom,
as expression.

Of course your
ass-tight, nearly sheer
black tights
are the most comfortable thing you own;
we’ve made them that way.

We’ve gotten
two generations of you
laced into
Victoria’s Secret
and we made it hugely expensive.

I recognize how poorly
we’ve treated you
how much we’ve sexualized you
and how much we shame you
for acting how we ask you to.

And yet,
I still love you
in La Perla,
in Agent Provocateur,
or in nothing.

We want
our daughters
to be nuns
and everyone else’s daughters
to be strippers.

I want
to save you
from me
but I realize
even that is a misogyny.

The Olympics!

For the record, I would like it to be known that I am very excited about the upcoming Olympics. This has never happened before! I think it is because this is the first Olympics that has taken place since I have been trying to lead a non-sedentary lifestyle. I finally have a relatable and physical understanding of what it must feel like to run a five minute mile (I’m lucky to do 11 on a good day) and so I am excited to watch real athletes run and jump and kayak and hop and dance and swim and shoot and pole vault and javelin and do all of the other things that they train for. May the lord bless and keep those athletic sons of bitches. For my part, I will skip my own running and eat some cheddar and sour cream ruffles and watch them perform their hearts out!

The only other television events I’ve ever found this exciting:
11)      The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
22)      The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
33)      Any season premiere of The West Wing (which is no longer on TV)

Girl Scouts of America?

I was just at the grocery store and there were some girl scouts out front slinging their cookies. I noticed that there were a couple of them wearing hoodies and pants from the Victoria’s Secret ‘Pink’ collection.

I don’t have anything that I want to say about this (even I am smart enough to know when to shut my mouth), but I just wanted to mention it.

Talk amongst yourselves.

The Great Thing About a Blog.

Why does Arianna Huffington annoy me so much? She’s on my side now, politically, but she still annoys me. And it is not just her accent. Maybe it’s because she’s a political carpetbagger. Or because her website - THE HUFFINGTON POST - has the worst and most cluttered homepage in all of god’s creation (even though it is otherwise pretty awesome).

Anyway, she does good work and I respect her, but I can barely stop myself from changing the channel whenever she comes on.

She just said, “This is about right and wrong and there is only one way to go.” But then she didn’t say which way to go (this is, perhaps, an unreasonable criticism that says more about my moral compass than about her speaking style).

Sorry Arianna.

Conversely, Adrianna Lima does not bother me. At all.

P.S.
The great thing about having a blog that no one reads, is that I get to post whatever I want on it.
