How Are Things on the West Coast?

Out here on the West coast we have started paying cargo ships to slow the hell down in the Santa Barbara Channel so that they won’t hit as many blue whales.

I really think that there is something hilarious about this (and also sad) but I can’t for the life of me distill it down into a single coherent thought. And I have been thinking about it ALL DAY.
If you can isolate the hilarity genome in this, please let me know, otherwise I am just going to keep stewing on it endlessly,

(Also, don’t google “blue whale collisions” because there is - apparently - never a happy fun story about them.)

Weather.

So as you know I live down here in southern California and it has been raining like crazy. Although it has probably been doing the same wherever you are, but that concerns me less.
Right now I am on the third floor of the English Department building at CSU Northridge and below is a picture of what it looks like out the window (I took this on my camera phone)!
