Poem #3.

The Deaf Girlfriend
By James Bezerra

When
a deaf girl
says, “I love you”
she only bothers
with
the vowels.

And when I
say, “I
love you” back,
I don’t say anything
at all;

only
the motions of my mouth
matter.
So I only hope
she doesn’t blink.
