Young Woman with Red Hair Sleeping in Red Room on Creased Bed Sheets with Bare Back.

This image does not imply that the poem below it is ekphrastic; it isn’t. But I thought it would be funny to add a picture to a poem about how there was no picture. While I was trying to find something, I found the photo below, called “Young woman with red hair sleeping in red room on creased bed sheets with bare back” by photographer Marta Orlowska and I think it is delicate and pretty and calm and more naked than it seems, and that is always interesting.

The image below has the shit watermarked out of it because apparently the internet is not a trustworthy place.

Wish I’d taken
picture of you
mess of sheets
bare skin of thighs
afternoon light
from just your bare mid back
slight shoulders
you looking
behind
one eye
all we can see
web of messy
tousled hair
last night’s eye liner
and knife edge
your lips
sharpened to a blade,
warm
slick.
