In the politics of happiness class (it is a veiled intro to comparative politics class) I TA, our guest speaker was a professor from Lebanon who told a couple stories of interest... first, she initially declined to guest lecture because the idea of Lebanon and happiness seemed pretty foreign, but came around to the idea of lecturing because she felt Lebanon had a unique "happiness" experience similar to a Phoenix where she said you just had to learn to be happy knowing "one day war, the next day peace". The other interesting story for you was when she was attending college at the American University in Beirut. Israel and Hezbollah were going at it again, and they were trying to figure out if they had to go to class for a test despite the bombing threats. As it would turn out, all the Lebanese students went to school and took the test and the remaining American and other nationality'ed students had to have a separate rescheduled test.
